Part of a continuing series of events, helping Saudi students plan their higher education and contribute to Vision 2030 goals

Effat University held a virtual university tour for students in Grade 11 and 12 in collaboration with The KAUST School, and KAUST Social Responsibility invited students from Thuwal and Jeddah that are enrolled on its Young Learners Development Program (YLDP).

The 90 minute presentation began with a comprehensive introductory overview of the University, the academic programs available and the careers these could lead to.  Effat comprises four colleges – Architecture & Design, Business, Engineering and Humanities and was the first university in the Kingdom to offer women the opportunity to study for degrees in Engineering.  Courses are offered at Foundation, Bachelors and Masters Level and all are nationally accredited and with, or working towards, additional international accreditation.  The University has formed academic partnerships with international institutions to ensure all degrees meet international standards.  The collaborations help inform the course content, and contribute to the curriculum, with faculty visits from the international partners to monitor department development.   Partnerships include Electrical and Computer Engineering with Duke University and Computer Science with Tokai in Japan.

The KAUST Young Learners Development Program encompasses a comprehensive portfolio of workshops and projects focused on STEM, English, digital literacy, soft skills and environmental awareness, but we have a particular aim of encouraging students to pursue Bachelors’ degrees in STEM subjects, that they may then be successful applying to KAUST to complete their Masters and perhaps even their PhD.

Science, technology and innovation are key components in Vision 2030 so degree studies in this area will lead towards a range of career opportunities while contributing to the Kingdom’s Sustainable Development GoalsWe hope to partner with other institutions to provide access to information on relevant higher education opportunities to students, as part of our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal supporting quality education and encouraging a thriving employment sector with decent work and economic growth.
