University Fair at The KAUST School

University Fair at TKS

The KAUST School hosted its inaugural Saudi University Fair in March 2019 and Social Responsibility invited students from Thuwal High Schools to join their peers from TKS to learn more about higher education opportunities in the Kingdom.

The 50 visiting students had the opportunity to speak to representatives from five universities - Effat University, University of Jeddah, University of Business and Technology, Dar Al-Hekma University and Batterjee Medical College.  Students were also able to discuss the standardized assessment and aptitude tests Saudi universities require for admission, with a representative from Qiyas - the National Center for Assessment.

The event began in the school library with a welcome from the school director Neeltje De Ruijter of TKS and then a series of short, informative presentations from each of the Universities.  After a refreshment break, the students visited the six booths in the Flag Pavilion to have more detailed conversations with the representatives.

The students found that the University Fair was a valuable addition to their online research - they were able to get immediate personalized answers to questions, an in-depth understanding of each university’s application process, as well as more targeted information on the universities themselves and the courses they offer.  Having the five universities and Qiyas available to talk to in one event was especially beneficial, given the time and distance required to travel to see them individually.

Alanud Alfaqir, Advancement Program Leader at TKS, said: “One of the advancement program goals at The KAUST School is to give back in education to this amazing country, in a variety of different ways.  In ensuring both students in Thuwal and TKS have the chance to see the educational options available to them, and to be able to choose a good University that recognizes their potential, we support local Saudi students and Vision 2030.”

A student from Thuwal High School for Boys said: “It was a great event, very useful, especially the National Center for Assessment booth.  Also, we were able to get a general idea of the universities and the available courses.”

Thank you to The KAUST School for organizing this event – the Thuwal students gained much constructive information and motivation for their future education.
