Green Roads For a Sustainable Future

Web news image-01

DATE: Friday, April 1: 7:00am – 11:30am

On Friday, April 1, 2022 hundreds of volunteers will remove waste from verges on a section of the KAUST to Jeddah Highway in a coordinated event. All plastic collected on the day will be manufactured into a sustainable bitumen using the recycled plastic and a conventional modifier. This improves the durability of paved roads for sustaining exposure to tough external factors including high temperature and traffic loads, leading to less road maintenance.  Furthermore, the product provides high thermal stability and minimizes the environmental impact of roads.

The plastic collected during the event will be used to construct a road right here in KAUST, marking our commitment to the circular carbon economy and a greener future.

You can make a difference!

All participating KAUST volunteers stand the chance to win a golf cart or one of five electric scooters.
