Thuwal Ladies Compete in KAUST Chef Challenge

Two teams of ladies from Thuwal joined KAUST community members and took part in the KAUST Chef Challenge on Friday February 8th, an event organized as part of KAUST Sustainability Month. The format of the competition followed the popular cooking show Top Chef – the competitors had ten minutes to choose from a range of provided ingredients and then 30 minutes to create their dishes and present them to the judges. Dishes were judged against four criteria – use of healthy ingredients, taste, presentation and minimum food waste. The dishes challenged competitors to use their culinary creativity and inventiveness, without recipe books. Having previously attended the Health & Wellbeing workshops delivered by KAUST Health, the ladies were very keen to apply their recently acquired skills in healthy cooking. The teams were pleased to receive compliments from the judges on their dishes and hope that the event will be repeated.

While visiting KAUST, the ladies enjoyed a coffee in Harbor Walk and, although offered a ride on the shuttle to the Community Hub Room in Discovery Square, remembered their Wellbeing Workshop and chose the healthy option to walk!

Thanks to KAUST Sustainability for organizing such an entertaining evening. Social Responsibility is able to draw on its knowledge of Thuwal and the surrounding areas to encourage and co-ordinate our neighbors’ participation in such events, thereby extending the range of community engagement activities and programs that the department organizes throughout the year.
